USTA Green Initiative: Alec Baldwin – Check Out My Ball Puppet

With Alec Baldwin, you too can help the environment! The US Open will expand on the comprehensive “green initiatives” launched in 2008 and continue to make the home of the toughest two weeks in tennis one of the easiest places to be eco-friendly and environmentally friendly. Initiatives for 2010 include: * A consumer waste recycling program for plastic and cans and an operational recycling program for cardboard and glass cover 100% of the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. * Following the US Open, approximately 20000 Wilson tennis ball cans are recycled. The 60000 Wilson tennis balls used during the US Open are reused for NTC programming and then donated to community/youth programs. * There will be 225000 US Open souvenir-style shopping bags designed for multiple uses with a “recycle and reuse” message printed on the bottom, and a reusable tote bag will be available at merchandise stands for . * 2.4 million napkins in the general concessions area are composed of 90 percent post-consumer waste, and all US Open-related printed materials (US Open program), marketing collateral, tickets and the Daily Drawsheet, among others) are composed of at least 30 percent post-consumer waste.

In a dramatic final match at Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, Andy Murray was victorious over Roger Federer to claim the title of champion in back-to-back years. Murray defeated Federer in straight sets 7-5, 7-5. Despite numerous rain delays, the Brit was able to stay on his game to win his first title this year.
